Lecture series to kickoff Thursday

Terry Root, a Senior Fellow at the Woods Institute for the Environment at Stanford University, is scheduled to discuss climate change and its effect on Michigan species from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Union, Parlors A and B.

MSU researches nonfood biofuel

The future of alternative fuels and economic freedom might be as simple as grass clippings and wood chips. Biomass such as straw, switchgrass and wood chips can be used to produce cellulosic ethanol, a potential replacement to ethanol produced from corn, wheat and rice, said Bruce Dale, associate director of MSU’s Office of Biobased Technologies.

ASMSU representatives visit MSU Dubai, meet with students

A trip that started Wednesday in Detroit and culminated in Dubai could lay the foundation ASMSU needs to bring representation to MSU Dubai students. Kyle Dysarz, ASMSU’s Student Assembly chairperson, and Kristy Currier, ASMSU’s Academic Assembly chairperson, left for Dubai last Wednesday as part of ASMSU’s ongoing efforts to secure representation and recognition for students at MSU’s satellite campus in Dubai, ASMSU Spokesperson Portia McKenzie said. They are scheduled to return Thursday afternoon in Detroit.

Students join green economy

Adam Duke’s house burned down from an electrical fire in 2006. No one was hurt, but his family’s home was destroyed. At the time, Duke was taking his first environmental science class as a freshman at MSU. As his parents started talking about rebuilding, Duke applied what he’d been learning in class, encouraging his parents to consider building a more environmentally friendly home.
