On Friday, the Residential Initiative on the Study of the Environment, or RISE, held its first cooking workshop of fall semester in the Bailey Hall community kitchen. Held once per month, RISE holds the cooking workshops to promote food awareness and build cooking skills.

What Up Dawg? first opened its doors at 317 M.A.C. Ave. in 2011. A homegrown art gallery nestled in downtown East Lansing celebrated five years of survival and growth Sunday with food, community art projects and camaraderie. MSU police are investigating a string of on-campus moped thefts they believe were orchestrated by minors from Lansing. MSU police Detective Lorrie Bates said between 10 and 15 student-owned mopeds were stolen from campus during Welcome Week. The thefts initially began in April, when about 20 mopeds were stolen within the three-week period before the spring 2013 semester ended.

The East Lansing’s Farmer’s Market is set to undergo a major face-lift this year, thanks to an award through a state-funded grant program. The market, which marked its five-year anniversary this summer, recently obtained a $35,000 grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, or MEDC, to improve what city officials call an already thriving attraction.
