Kruth's fantasy picks

September 12, 2007

After the first week of the fantasy football season, I’m pretty excited about my teams. In my league with friends from home, I notched a 93-49 victory with Travis Henry, Torry Holt and the “Steel Curtain” defense of Pittsburgh leading the way. Sadly, a zero touchdown effort from Alex Smith on Monday night left my team in The State News league with a 74-72 loss.
Still, I’m keeping my head held high in both leagues, looking to play the matchups and analyze the stats to figure out who to sit and who to start, and I figured I’d let fellow fantasy nerds in on what’s going on in my mind.

Two to start:
Adrian Peterson: As of now, Chester Taylor’s status is questionable. Good deal for Peterson owners as he’ll get the majority of the carries and face the Lions.
Bengals D/ST: You might be able to find the Bengals on the waiver wire like I did. They don’t have a reputation for being even a decent defensive team, but they got two picks from Baltimore quarterbacks last week and face the Cleveland Browns in week two.

Two to sit:
Larry Johnson: Alright, you never sit LJ, especially when he’s the only offensive weapon on the Chiefs. But the Bears held LaDainian Tomlinson to 25 yards last week so that’s something to put into consideration. Sadly, this pick hits me hard as I have Johnson, Henry and not much else in the backfield. For me it’ll be a game-time decision, but if you have any other viable option that will get you average points, I’d say put LJ on the shelf.
Minnesota D/ST: Unfortunately, the Vikings don’t face Joey Harrington and a weaponless offense every week. They’ll definitely get some interceptions this week against Jon Kitna, but is it really worth all the yards and points they’ll give up? Not for me.
