New NCAA age-based eligibility clock to shift sports at MSU
The NCAA approved one of the most substantial changes to student-athlete eligibility last Tuesday — a five-year rule. Players will have a five-year period of eligibility (POE) upon college enrollment or the “start of the academic year” following their 19th birthday, whichever comes first. The rule eliminates redshirts and will shift recruiting, roster building and development across all MSU sports - notably football, basketball and hockey.

Several MSU hockey commits set for early NHL Draft selection
Several Michigan State hockey commits are projected to be drafted in the 2026 NHL Draft, including Top 20-Ranked prospects like Chase Reid, Ethan Belchetz, Nikita Klepov and Thomas Bleyl.The draft will be held June 26-27 at Keybank Center in Buffalo, New York. The first round will be held June 26 beginning at 7 p.m. Rounds 2-7 will begin at 11 a.m. the following day.
