Spartans, Boilermakers reverse roles this season

One year after MSU’s late-season 48-31 win at Purdue, the Spartans and Boilermakers have reversed roles. The Spartans went into West Lafayette, Ind., last season with a 5-5 record and a three-game losing streak in tow, fighting for their bowl lives with two games remaining.

Comley seeking more offensive output

MSU head coach Rick Comley worries about his team’s offensive production. The Spartans (4-2-2 overall, 2-0-2-2 CCHA) are averaging 1.9 goals a game and only have been able to score 15 goals in their first eight games. With seven of his team’s next nine games on the road, Comley is well aware that the Spartans are going to have to find a way to put the puck in the net.

Spartans ready for Big Ten Tournament

It was announced Sunday the MSU women’s soccer team will open the Big Ten Tournament at 8 p.m. Thursday against Illinois in Iowa City, Iowa — the first obstacle to the program’s first Big Ten Tournament title.

Pistons swap Billups for Iverson; smart move by Joe Dumars

Joe Dumars has done it again. With the trade of Denver Nuggets All-Star Allen Iverson for Detroit Pistons point guard Chauncey Billups, center Cheikh Samb and five minutes with Antonio McDyess’ bought-out contract, the Pistons general manager has pulled off another risky swap that not only keeps Detroit in the NBA title hunt, but also positions the team for success in the future.

“Joe’s done a great job, but I think he’s way too young to retire. He does things the way Michigan State believes in and that’s with class and with dignity and by doing things the right way. I think everyone is very proud of him and I wish him the best. I know the head coach next year is going to get a great assistant.”
