Spartans lose, remain winless in Big Ten

Both the MSU men’s soccer team and its opponent, Wisconsin, were searching for their first conference victory Sunday afternoon in Madison, Wisc. After playing to a 1-1 deadlock through regulation, it appeared the game would go down in the books as a tie.

Spartans post nonconference shutout

The No. 8 MSU field hockey team avoided a home letdown Sunday, playing just well enough to defeat Central Michigan, 2-0, despite not having its strongest outing. The Spartans had several chances to put the Chippewas away early after scoring a goal less than four minutes into the game. But Central Michigan hung tough and didn’t relent even after the Spartans scored both goals by the early stages of the second half.

Dantonio: Winston out for season

MSU football head coach Mark Dantonio announced Sunday night that sophomore running back Glenn Winston will have surgery on his right ACL on Thursday and will miss the remainder of the season.

Spartans continue to roll, beat Illini 24-14

Champaign, Ill. — After a battle for the starting quarterback position finally appeared to have ended near the midpoint of the MSU football team’s season, one of those quarterbacks led the Spartans to their second straight victory Saturday and back to .500 with a 3-3 record.
