Softball rests, prepares for home opener against Butler

Over an hour before practice began, members of the MSU softball team were on the field joking, practicing, but mainly preparing. Coming off a loss to Purdue last weekend, the Spartans (10-19 overall, 0-3 Big Ten) have been preparing for a busy weekend home. Their home opener will take place Thursday when MSU goes up against Butler at 4 p.m. at Secchia Stadium. Continuing into the weekend, MSU will host Ohio State in a three-game series, starting Saturday at 1 p.m.

Softball prepares for Hoosier Classic

When looking at the MSU softball team’s record (7-15) the initial impulse is to assume the team isn’t very good. But the Spartans have gone through a grueling preseason that head coach Jacquie Joseph touts as the toughest in the country and said, as a result, the team’s record is deceiving.

Hansen honored for senior season

MSU softball senior shortstop Lindsey Hansen was named a 2011 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association, or NFCA, Division I All-American, the association announced Wednesday. For her outstanding final season performance for MSU, Hansen received a third-team at-large shortstop selection.

Three MSU softball players earn all-conference honors

After the MSU softball team concluded its season last weekend, the Spartans had three players selected for All-Big Ten honors, the conference announced Wednesday. Junior catcher Brett Williams was named First Team All-Big Ten, and senior shortstop Lindsey Hansen and junior third baseman Ali Grant were second and third team honorees, respectively.
