Landing a perfect 10 'indescribable'

Eighteen years of gymnastics paid off for senior Rhiannon Banda-Scott as she scored a perfect 10 on the vault at Sunday’s Senior Day, leading the Spartans to a 196.350-193.475 victory against New Hampshire.

FOOTBALL

Dantonio is off to blazing start for 2009

What a difference one month makes. After National Signing Day on Feb. 6, MSU’s 2008 football recruiting class was criticized for not hitting enough home runs, but head coach Mark Dantonio has already blasted a grand slam out of the park for the 2009 class.

ICE HOCKEY

Spartans preparing for CCHA tournament

After a week off, the MSU hockey team is ready to go. Standing in the way of a trip to Joe Louis Arena is one of the hottest teams in the nation, Northern Michigan, which knocked off Ohio State 6-1 on Sunday night to move into the quarterfinals.

BASKETBALL

Payback, pride on team's mind for Friday

To avenge its Sunday loss to Ohio State, the MSU men’s basketball team doesn’t have to look any farther than — well, Indianapolis. The Spartans have their chance at revenge for the 63-54 collapse they suffered in Columbus this weekend as the Spartans (24-7 overall, 12-6 Big Ten) face the Buckeyes (19-12, 10-8) for the second time in a week.

BASKETBALL

Desperate and hungry, OSU wanted it more

The Spartans went to Columbus riding a wave. It may have been closer to a ripple than a tidal wave, but a throttling of Indiana and a strong road win at Illinois qualified as steps forward for the Spartans.

BASKETBALL

Out of step

After defeating Illinois twice in the regular season, the MSU women’s basketball team failed to do it when it mattered the most. Illinois defeated MSU 55-41 on Saturday in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals at Conseco Fieldhouse. The Spartans now have to wait to hear their post-season fate, hoping for an NCAA Tournament bid.
