MSUDPPS welcomes Maria Valayil as their new police social worker

The Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety recently welcomed Maria Valayil as their new full time police social worker. The police social worker accompanies officers on welfare checks and follows up on incidents that may indicate an individual in the MSU community is struggling with their mental health. Valayil’s role will shift the department towards a structure in which police officers and social workers can work together in responding to mental health emergencies.

Go Green: MSU starts transition to emission-free vehicles

The university plans to expand its fleet made up of sedans, minivans and light-duty pickup trucks to 369 electric vehicles by the end of the decade. MSU also increased its number of private charging stations to 50 for the possibility of university electric vehicle expansion.
