Alumna inducted to Women's Hall of Fame

Mary Aikey has spent an entire lifetime fighting for causes she believed in. In one night, she was given recognition for it all. Aikey, a former executive director of Greater Lansing’s Young Women’s Christian Association, or YWCA, and an MSU alumna, was one of 10 women inducted into the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame by the Michigan Women’s Historical Center.

Community members speak at international student reception

A world map speckled with pins representing MSU international students’ home countries welcomed students and community members to the Union Ballroom on Tuesday night. More than 100 international students gathered and met with community leaders for the 7th Annual Reception for International Students and Scholars.

Council establishes $125K endowment

Graduate and professional student leaders might soon be rewarded with more than just glowing résumés during their time at MSU. The Council of Graduate Students, or COGS, has established a $125,000 endowment to benefit graduate students who show leadership in their departments and communities. The group set up an investment account several years ago and last year’s executive board searched for a use for the funds that had built up, COGS President Stefan Fletcher said. In partnership with the graduate school, COGS unanimously voted to donate $125,000 from the fund to set up the new endowment.

Breslin Center management sees some restructuring

A restructuring and refocusing related to management of Breslin Center recently was announced by the Division of Residential and Hospitality Services. The changes, effective immediately, include management of programming, ticketing and marketing by Wharton Center staff for live entertainment events, according to a statement by Wharton Center released Friday.

Fasting challenges hunger, intolerance

After a day of not eating or drinking from sunrise to sunset, students who participated in an all-day fast gathered together in the International Center to eat and listen to each other’s experiences.
