A young director’s first piece left a small crowd clapping furiously last week when he showed the award-winning film at MSU for one of the first times with the hope of eventually gaining funding from ASMSU.

Obama scheduled to visit MSU on Thursday

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama will hold a rally Thursday at MSU, campaign officials announced before 5 p.m. Monday. The rally, which is part of the “Change We Need” tour, is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. at Adams Field off West Circle Drive.

MSU curricula to follow new accounting standards

Changes to MSU’s accounting curricula will reflect the gradual shift in how U.S. companies now file financial statements. In August, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announced a timetable for the U.S. to potentially drop its current accounting standards, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, in favor of the developing global standards’ International Financial Reporting Standards, or IFRS.

Students get involved, perform at Soul Night

The McDonel Hall Kiva looked more like an MSU version of “America’s Got Talent” on Saturday as students showcased their unique skills at Soul Night, presented by the McDonel Black Caucus. The MSU Breakdancing Club opened the show with a routine and was followed by a variety of performances such as poetry, hip-hop dance routines and sign language interpretations of popular music.

Rally at state Capitol backs women's health

Mary Siemon can’t afford to go to an obstetrician-gynecologist because her insurance won’t cover the costs. “It’s been really hard to find a doctor where I could go for reproductive care and that’s a real issue concerning a lot of the women on campus and a lot of women back home,” Siemon said.

Study abroad fair to take place at Union

The 2008 Fall Study Abroad Fair will take place from noon to 6 p.m. today on the second floor of the Union. There will be more than 120 exhibits where students interested in studying abroad can talk with professors and former participants and gather information about the different programs MSU offers.

It’s been said you can’t understand what someone is going through unless you’ve walked in their shoes. For this reason, the Islamic Medical Students Association, or IMSA, and the Muslim Students Association are inviting students to fast for a day with the Islamic community.

Fund allows students to finance 'green' projects

Students with ‘green’ ideas who are short on cash now have a new way to finance their projects. The Student Project Fund, operated through the Office of Campus Sustainability, will provide funds to students who wish to do sustainability-focused projects, Terry Link, director of the Office of Campus Sustainability, said.
