E.L. gas station robber sentenced

Flint, Mich., resident Chrystal Atkins, one of the two women charged with robbing the Admiral gas station, 1120 E. Grand River Ave., last summer was given her sentencing yesterday morning at the Veterans Memorial Courthouse, 313 W. Kalamazoo St., in Lansing. She faced charges for robbery and spraying the station clerk with Mace.

Rising Michigan gas prices affect everyday transportation decisions

MSU students, faculty and local business owners have taken notice to Michigan’s skyrocketing gas prices, which have driven East Lansing residents to rethink their travel and transportation decisions. Recent reports have slated Michigan as one of the most expensive states when it comes to gasoline prices, averaging $4.22 per gallon in the state, according to AAA’s daily gas report. Economics professor Charles Ballard said prices are higher in Michigan than most other states because it is far away from a lot of the refining capacity in the U.S.

Grand River Ave. construction ahead of schedule

Grand River Avenue construction between Michigan Avenue and Bogue Street is a week ahead of schedule, according to a press release from the Michigan Department of Transportation, or MDOT. Traffic has been shifted to the newly paved eastbound side of the road.
