Hillel celebrates Rosh Hashanah

The MSU Hillel Jewish Student Center was a flurry of activity last night, as nearly 200 students packed the dining hall to share food and celebrate the 5,772nd Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah.

Students assaulted in separate, similar incidents

Three MSU students were victims of separate but similar attacks this weekend in East Lansing. The three reports of strong armed robbery had several similarities. They occurred between 7:30 p.m. and 3 a.m., there were multiple attackers, and all victims were traveling alone, East Lansing police Capt. Tom Johnstone said.

Local church hosts Quran recitation

All Saints Episcopal Church, 800 Abbot Road, will host a reading of the Quran from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. The reading is in response to a planned Quran burning at a Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Fla., also slated for Saturday.

Profs elected to academic groups

The University Committee on Academic Governance elected four new members and one incumbent member to serve two year terms on the committee. Naveen Khanna, professor of business; Harold Hughes, professor of agriculture and natural science; Mark Reckase, professor of education and Stephanie Watts, professor of osteopathic medicine are new additions to the committee. Haddish Melakeberhan, professor of agriculture and natural science has been chosen to serve on the committee for another term.
