Fire Department releases cause of Capitol Villa Apartment fire
The cause of the fire at Capitol Villa Apartments, 1708 E. Grand River Ave., was determined to be an accident by East Lansing Fire Inspector Gerald Rodabaugh. Rodabaugh said the fire was caused by the electric stove in apartment 48 being left on and was compounded by combustible materials that were in close proximity to the stove. The fire destroyed apartment 48 and caused sever smoke damage to apartment 51 on the same floor. “No one was hurt in the fire and that’s what’s important,” Rodabaugh said. The conditions that caused the fire are no ones fault and there for will not affect the insurance claim on the building, Rodabaugh said.
