Stabbing victim said he joked about suspect

An ordinary night at the bar nearly turned deadly for Ryan Noel. Noel, a 23-year-old Lansing resident, testified Friday at a preliminary hearing at 54-B District Court that 29-year-old East Lansing resident Frank DeWayne West attacked him outside Reno’s East Side Sportsbar & Grill, 1310 Abbott Road, more than two weeks ago.

Flooding after rain creates headaches

While the heavy rain that pounded East Lansing Aug. 24 sent many students running for cover, it brought an unexpected nuisance for Katie Ault. About an inch of water had flooded the social work senior’s apartment.

MSU professor dies on study abroad

J. Morgan Sweeney began his career at MSU in 1976 and instantly was drawn to the study abroad program. He took students on trips to Ireland, England and Scotland, and was known for his “dry Irish wit” and charm.

Mich. house votes to bump up primary

The Michigan House voted Thursday to move the state’s presidential primary from Feb. 26 to Jan. 15. The change in date, if approved by Gov. Jennifer Granholm, would make Michigan the third state in the country to hold its primary.
