Lynn Wisper looks like any other girl in any other magazine. She’s kneeling, eating mint chocolate chip ice cream, with a red and gray striped cardigan over her shoulders. The hospitality business senior has straight blonde hair and she’s grinning from ear to ear. Except, well, she’s topless. And this isn’t any other magazine. This is Playboy. But just because Wisper bares all in the latest “Girls of The Big Ten” issue doesn’t mean she bares all in person.

McCain, Palin appear in Grand Rapids Wednesday

John McCain said Wednesday he wouldn’t forget Michigan if he is elected president. About 4,000 supporters of the Republican senator from Arizona watched him speak at a “Straight Talk Town Hall” meeting at Ford Fieldhouse at Grand Rapids Community College.

Salsa lessons kick off Hispanic Heritage Month

University Activities Board is bringing a slice of Hispanic culture to MSU. The “Sizzling Salsa Fest” will run tonight from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Union. The festivities begin with free half-hour Salsa lessons by the Bamboo! Salsa Club. A cultural disc jockey also will be in the Union Ballroom for anyone wanting to take the floor.

Local parishes to combine

Two will become one on July 1, 2009 — that is, St. John Student Parish and St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. The two parishes will examine which programs are compatible and combine their resources to reduce redundancies and form a more unified community.

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama unveiled a plan Tuesday to provide $5 billion in federal funding to protect and restore the Great Lakes. The plan would be funded by money saved from reducing tax breaks for oil companies and would only be enacted if he’s elected.
