ASMSU lobbies for uniform attendance policy

ASMSU Academic Assembly’s Code and Academic Policy committee passed a bill Tuesday to advocate for a comprehensive university attendance policy. ASMSU is MSU’s undergraduate student government. As the university attendance policy stands now, attendance largely is left up to the discretion of faculty, said Academic Assembly internal vice chairman Zach Taylor. According to the policy, “It is the responsibility of the instructor to define the policy for attendance at the beginning of the course.” “(The faculty) may be willing to institute change in the way they practice as a community,” Taylor said.

Grant makes bioenergy crop growth possible

Fundraiser aims to raise awareness about camp

The dulcet tones of Hanson’s “MMMbop” could be heard blaring from a boombox Monday afternoon at the Wells Hall bridge as student volunteers attempted to raise money and awareness for children whose parents have or have had cancer. Office of Financial Aid adds more security

Students and guests wishing to speak with MSU’s Office of Financial Aid staff this spring concerning student records soon will have to further confirm their identity by answering one of three security questions. In compliance with the 1974 Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA, MSU officials will implement additional security measures to ensure identity before a person obtains confidential records and financial aid information, said Val Meyers, associate director for the MSU Office of Financial Aid.

International Education Week events occurring all weeklong

SCOUT BANANA fundraises for children in Africa

Austin Melcher has been to Africa and has seen the potential in the people there — but money and resources are lacking. So Melcher participated in a fundraising soccer tournament hosted by the MSU chapter of SCOUT BANANA Saturday at Munn field to benefit an after-school program in South Africa, helping children affected by HIV/AIDS.

MSU Quidditch team competes in World Cup

Bludgers, beaters, chasers and seekers, keepers, quaffles and, of course, the golden snitch. With more than 750 college students running around with broomsticks and capes, the average Muggle might get overwhelmed. The MSU Quidditch team was one of the 46 teams that competed in the International Quidditch Association, or IQA, fourth annual Quidditch World Cup Saturday and Sunday at DeWitt Clinton Park, in New York City.
