Break-ins, house fire occur during break

It’s been a rough couple weeks for Trinidad Esparza-Magañan and his roommates. On Dec. 30, 2010, the media and communication technology and food industry management senior reported a home invasion at his house. A week and a half later, at 3:18 a.m. Sunday morning, a fire broke out in their kitchen and spread to the rest of their house.

Donation to benefit MSU accounting

Because of one man’s work, the MSU Accounting and Information Systems Department recently received a $500,000 donation to its programs. PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, or PwC, announced in December 2010 it will contribute the money throughout a period of five years to the department.

State lawmakers last month wrapped up the legislative session by passing numerous of bills and meeting a handful of times before officially adjourning — but not before repealing penalties for possession and use of several drugs.

Spectators gathered under the stars Sunday afternoon to listen to the blending of science and Native American folklore at Abrams Planetarium during the show, “Sky Tellers: The Myths, the Magic and the Mysteries of the Universe.”

Saturday marked a new era in Michigan. It was a new day in a new month in a new year. But perhaps most importantly, it was the day Rick Snyder officially became the state’s 48th governor.

Board of Trustees to discuss renovations at friday meeting

Construction across the university will be a top discussion item at today’s MSU Board of Trustees meeting, as trustees will examine proposals to renovate the first floor dining area of Case Hall and install state-of-the-art teaching laboratories in The School of Hospitality Business’ facilities.

Study shows high volumes of students texting during class

Texting during class is an everyday experience for no-preference freshman Kathlyn McQuillan and many other students, according to a recent survey released by Wilkes University administrators in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. About 91 percent of 269 students surveyed at Wilkes University said they have texted during class, and almost half said it was easy to do without their instructor noticing.
