In an effort to increase student events and bring larger acts to campus, the Union Activities Board and the Campus Center will merge this fall.The new organization, called University Activities Board, will combine the efforts of the Union Activities Board and the Campus Center to provide more weekend entertainment for students as well as increase the number of social events at the Union.“We started looking at Union Activities Board and Campus Center, and realized we were both planning many fun events,” Union Activities Board director Jodi Roberto Hancock said.

ASMSU, Red Cedar Log call truce

After weeks of tension within the hallways of ASMSU, the struggle for editorial control of the Red Cedar Log has reached a possible truce. The proposed compromise, in the form of a new bill, was organized through a combined effort by the university’s student government, representatives and Red Cedar Log staff during a meeting Monday. “It showed what students can do when they work together,” said Chrystal Price, the Black Student Alliance representative for ASMSU Student Assembly. Debate for editorial control of the yearbook first occurred when Bryan Newland, the Native American Indian Student Organization representative for the assembly, questioned the Red Cedar Log’s efforts to diversify its pages.

Abortion vigil stirs student debate

Pro-life students and local residents gathered at Beaumont Tower on Tuesday night for a vigil to remember lives that have been lost since abortion was legalized 28 years ago. This is in reply to Mary Krizan’s opinion in The State News (“Problems of safety belt law overlooked,” SN 1/19), which mistakenly tracked a racist plot behind the mandatory safety belt law and didn’t recognize the economic nature of the issue. Public traffic holds risks and dangers because people cause accidents.
