The missed functions that ultimately led to the dismissal of Jeremy Jackson from the top-ranked hockey squad might have been attributed to narcolepsy and hypersomnia, two sleep disorders the freshman center says he was recently diagnosed with.Jackson, a Chilliwack, British Columbia native, was removed from the team last week following a two-week saga of team suspensions and missed functions, classes and team study sessions. While Jackson has been unavailable for comment since the dismissal, he spoke with The State News on two different occasions earlier this month, saying his doctor said the condition requires him to get 17 hours a night to average a normal sleep schedule.Narcolepsy causes brief attacks of deep sleep with an unknown cause, while hypersomnia involves sleeping for excessive periods of time mixed with intervals of normal sleeping and waking.Right now, there are a lot of problems with my physical condition, said Jackson, who said hes visited a sleep specialist.
