Being the victim of a sexual assault can be difficult enough, but imagine reliving the experience during a police interrogation. For a survivor, making a police report can be a difficult first step.
Soccer in the United States may not cause the uproar among fans like the Manchester United or Liverpool can.But East Lansing soccer hooligans will have a reason to cheer tonight as the MSU mens soccer team takes on a diversified Oakland University team at 4:00 p.m.
Lansing resident Nicole said she believes the man convicted of raping her in 1993 would have had a longer jail sentence if she had a rape kit done. It was basically his word against mine, she said.
After nestling into her student section seat during Saturdays record-breaking hockey game, Tamra Compton decided to take a quick restroom break. But the break didnt turn out to be so quick.Compton and hundreds of other students were delayed from returning to student section seats - or never seated at all - when the crowd became too large.I didnt know that I couldnt leave, the no-preference sophomore said.
They didnt know each other by name, only by the green and white felt numbers pinned to their backs.
MSU head coach Bobby Williams played musical chairs with his lineup after both of his starting cornerbacks suffered injuries in the bye week. Both senior DeMario Suggs and freshman Jason Harmon broke an ankle and are out eight to10 weeks. As a result, Williams shuffled his players and even dipped into his offensive resources.
Jim Hines, a 1996 MSU graduate, said when he was 16 a friend told him she was raped. Now he has heard it too often. Ive lost track of the number of friends who have been raped, Hines said.
America. The land of the free, and the home of the brave. Those familiar words rang in the back of my mind as I watched in horror at Sept.
In the last three weeks Congress has been working quite diligently to pass legislation, the vast majority relating to the events of Sept.
Tomorrow will be exactly one month to the day that the United States stood still. As the horrific events in New York City and Washington unfolded, the majority of the nation sat glued to their radios, televisions and computer screens to absorb what was going on.
MSU junior left wing Steve Clark said Saturday was maybe the biggest disappointment of his career. It seems like an odd statement considering Saturday was the day the top-ranked Spartans hosted The Cold War, broke the world hockey attendance record and tied archrival Michigan 3-3 in Spartan Stadium. Many of Clarks teammates actually called Saturday one of the best, most memorable days of their lives.
Most makeovers provide drastic change in very little time, but East Lansings downtown has been in the process of a long makeover for more than six years. And its really beginning to take shape.Jim Cash of The Christman Company, the Lansing-based development company in charge of the project, said the $30 million project is going well and staying true to its schedule. Two of the projects - a new 730-space parking structure and the relocated Buffalo Wild Wings, 360 Albert Ave.
It was a night of drummers and ex-drummers as Boston-based rockers American Hi-Fi performed for a crowd of about 400 at the Fairchild Theatre Monday night. In support of its self-titled debut effort, the band performed many of its radio hits including Flavor of the Weak and Fool for You. Its too bad American Hi-Fi didnt get as good as a response as it deserved.
They sound like Lit. Theyre touring with Lit. Theyre signed to Lits own RCA-distributed Dirty Martini label. They look like Sum 41 or a PG-13-rated Rancid. Go figure. Handsome Devil is riding the recent pop-punk wave like a Sum 41 or Blink 182.
Like Eve 6? Nope me either, so you might as well quit reading. However, if you are one of those Eve 6 faithful, you may want to read on. Way back in 1998 Eve 6 released its self-titled debut and helped redefine an entire genre in the business - bad music. But if you were one of the many who rushed out on impulse to pick up Eve 6s CDs, you will probably like Athenaeum - one of the worst clones of crappy mainstream music that I have heard in quite some time. It cannot be helped if your voice sounds like someone elses.
By KATIE STACHLEWITZ For The State News Pete Wittig stood tuning his guitar and adjusting the harmonica propped in front of his mouth. Together with Steve Pickney, the former MSU students make up the group Tex Morrocco, a two-man guitar and harmonica act. Rick Pniewski appreciates good old-fashioned rock n roll bands - which is why hes excited about American Hi-Fi performing at the Fairchild Theatre tonight. Its just good basic rock n roll, said Pniewski, manager of CD Warehouse, 228 Abbott Road.
I was delighted to see your article on local music in Fridays State News (Broken melody10/5). But I wasnt at all surprised by what I found in the content. Any exposure for local bands is great, but it seems as though every time there is an article on local music, the same bands are mentioned.
An 8-foot-wide, 17-ton magnet was carefully attached to a gigantic yellow crane by two fearless workers. The magnet was then strategically lowered through the roof of MSUs Medical Resonance Imaging Facility, allowing the university to join some elite company. Its not just any magnet - it is one of only four magnets in the country that can do whole body imaging, and its the first in Michigan. The other whole body imaging magnets are found at Harvard University, the University of Illinois and the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Magnetic resonance imaging is a nonradiation technique that provides images of the internal structure of the body by using magnetic fields and radio waves. In addition to producing high resolution images, the magnet has twice the magnetic field strength of the one its replacing. Mark DeLano, an assistant professor of radiology, said the new magnet is the first of its kind to be used clinically in Michigan.
