Williams hasnt earned his pay

You are correct (“Not worth it,” SN 1/7). Bobby Williams has shown an average performance at best. My wife and I usually travel to two to three games a year.

Until Sunday to play at Ricks

Big Tuna didn’t waste any time adding Until Sunday to its roster. The record label put the Detroit-based band under its wing almost immediately after the band graduated from high school in 1998. “We had wanted to pursue our career in music so we checked out MPA/Pearl Sound (recording studio) in Canton,” said Josh Brooks, lead singer and rhythm guitarist.

COMMENTARY

Coach hasnt proven his worth

I am a bit surprised at the new Bobby Williams contract extension (“Not worth it,” SN 1/7). I am a fan of MSU’s athletics program and, as an alumnus, expect the football program to start competing like the basketball program has.

FEATURES

Mushroomhead releases decent trend record

Based on the album cover, it’s possible to stereotype these crazy cats as Slipknot wannabes. That pretty much sums it up. Both bands make generous use of its respective artilleries - loud guitars, pinpoint drumming and nightmarish vocals. And the masks?

SPORTS

Four year stars distant memory in college sports

Nothing hurts a program more than a player renouncing his eligibility to turn pro. It leaves programs with unexpected holes to fill and no reasonable way to fill them. It’s kind of like driving down the highway at 70 mph and suddenly throwing the car in reverse.

FEATURES

Celebrity anchors lack credibility

Someday I will turn on the television and flip to a random news network to find out the week’s weather forecast and see Ricki Lake talking about cold fronts and lake effect snow. And next to her will be Mark-Paul Gosselaar from “Saved by the Bell” talking about America’s latest crisis overseas. Think it’s not possible?

Watch and wait

MSU students may be envious of University of Michigan students now that they will have a two-day semester break every fall.

MID-DAY UPDATE: E.L. students protest administration in Thursday rally

East Lansing High School students held a protest today in response to the school administration’s decision to ban all out-of-state trips. More than 200 students crowded into the commons area of East Lansing High School, 509 Burcham Drive, at 8 a.m., Brent Gillespie, an 18-year-old senior, said. The ban came when the school examined its field-trip policy and decided to limit school trips to those that took place within the Michigan, superintendent Tom Giblin told The State News on Monday. Among the trips canceled was a trip to Walt Disney World by the band and orchestra and Project Close Up’s trip to Washington, D.C. Giblin said he has offered to meet with students on the issue, but only the East Lansing Middle School students have spoken with him. Gillespie said the superintendent told the students he would meet with them in a question-and-answer forum to resolve the conflict. “We are still planning on speaking to the board meeting on Monday,” Gillespie said.

Stop talking about mall incident

I am sick of hearing about the Meridian Mall case (“Meridian Mall group should help others,” SN 1/7) and even more sick of the “victims” still complaining about the injustice they’ve endured.

E.L. eateries excel in city health inspections

East Lansing is filled with individuals trying to make the grade - and the city’s bars and restaurants are no exception. Several East Lansing businesses and restaurants were found to be in “outstanding condition” during liquor license inspections this year. Inspectors found 11 of the 24 establishments to be exceptionally clean and safe, with careful attention to maintenance and cleanliness of buildings and equipment, said Howard Asch East Lansing code enforcement and neighborhood conservation director. “In some of these establishments, the inspectors found absolutely nothing wrong,” Asch stated.

Pagano disappoints with teen tunes

Move over Britney. Nevermind, just let this little lady chill just outside of your spotlight, because she’s trying. Lindsay Pagano molds the country-tinged style of Leanne Rimes with the harmonization effects of Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera. This album is basic teeny-bopper sing along happy music.

Spartan offense prepares for new look

The possible departure of junior running back T.J. Duckett would be a “disaster” for the Spartan football team, one top college football analyst said.ESPN college football expert Beano Cook said if Duckett takes his game to the NFL, MSU would struggle to compete in the Big Ten conference.“It’s a disaster for them - you can count on two more losses (for the Spartans),” he said.
