ONLINE UPDATE: Granholm, Posthumus lead in exit polling

Early exit polls Tuesday had all the predictions for the primary election coming true, except possibly the expectation for a low voter turnout.“It looks as though it may be higher than usual,” said Steve Mitchell, head of the polling firm Mitchell Research and Communication.

Runner competes to honor mothers battle

Adam Coughlin wanted to put his athletic abilities to good use.Now the kinesiolgy doctoral student is spending his summer swimming, cycling and running to honor his mother, who overcame breast cancer two years ago.Coughlin set a goal to complete one marathon and seven triathlons by summer’s end and he is only one triathlon away.

Safety nets expected to return

Rink manager Tom Campbell said it’s “99 percent certain” that MSU will reinstate safety nets behind both goals at Munn Ice Arena this year - one season after the university removed the safeguards.The move is largely in response to an NHL initiative to put safety nets in every member arena following the death of 13-year-old Brittanie Cecil at a Columbus Blue Jackets game in March.

The time has come again. The candidates have campaigned, the issues have been debated. All that remains is for voters to make their decision. But with Tuesday’s election only being a primary, it may seem as though an individual vote does not matter.

Shooting brings end to hip-hop club night

The owner and managers of Old Town’s Spiral Video Dance Bar, 1247 Center St., are exploring new ideas to replace the club’s hip-hop theme night after three people were shot there early Thursday morning. Police identified the shooter as a 27-year-old Lansing man, but have not released his name.

Lansing - Thousands of people gathered downtown Saturday, filling the sidewalks along Michigan Avenue to see bands, clowns and cultural groups march toward the Capitol.And those who attended the third annual African American Parade and Family Reunion Picnic made the most of the sunny summer morning and afternoon.
