WEB ONLY: GEU says U violated contract, files grievance

The Graduate Employees Union said Friday the university has violated their contract. The GEU filed a grievance with Provost Lou Anna Simon charging the university with intentionally misinterpreting a clause in the contract signed last May.The clause regulates salaries for teaching assistants - and newly appointed GEU President Scott Henkel said hundreds of TAs are being underpaid.Henckel said he knows of less than five TAs who are receiving the pay obligated to them in the contract - four semesters or more of experience and a master’s degree education entitles them to a level-three pay.

Rice head coach brings winning tradition wherever he travels

He has more wins than 98 of the 156 coaches in the College Football Hall of Fame, yet few outside the profession know his name. His 155 wins rank fifth among active Division 1-A coaches, but Rice head coach Ken Hatfield doesn’t put much stock in numbers. “That just means you’ve been around a long time,” the 24-year coaching veteran said.

Jackson to visit campus

The Rev. Jesse Jackson is expected to speak on campus Sept. 15, MSU undergraduate student government officials said Thursday. ASMSU has been working for four months to bring the civil rights activist and former presidential candidate to MSU, said Louis Brown, the ASMSU Student Assembly vice-chairperson.
