Donors give record $211.6 million

University officials agree that the $211.6 million in total gifts to MSU during the 2001-02 school year, including a whopping $49 million gift from the Kellogg Co., is “g-r-r-reat!” This is the seventh straight year MSU has set a record for fund raising - breaking the record of $202 million during the 2000-01 school year. MSU was also ranked 10th for public institutions receiving the most donations for the 2001 fiscal year. “The university has real momentum and a broad range of activities,” MSU President M.

Road work to cause weekday lane closures

A $1.8 million pavement patching and grinding project to take place on US-23 was announced Thursday by the Michigan Department of Transportation. The highway improvement venture, scheduled to begin next week, will be focused in the Brighton area south of I-96 to Silver Lake Road. Both northbound and southbound US-23 will be subject to continuous single-lane closures until mid-October and transportation officials recommend motorists seek an alternate route. In an effort to stave off any added congestion during weekend traffic, road work will not take place after 3 p.m.

Have you ever sat down and watched a volleyball match? More specifically, have you ever watched the MSU women’s volleyball team compete in a match? If not, all I can say is you’re missing out. After spending the majority of my weekend in Jenison Field House watching the Coca-Cola/MSU Volleyball Classic, I have a higher level of respect for volleyball and for the people who play it. Not that I never respected volleyball players, I’m a former high school baseball player and I spent most of my time in high school surrounded by jocks.

After a week in the Middle East, Rep. Mike Rogers is convinced the United States should refrain from attacking Iraq. The Brighton Republican departed last week for the region believing the time was approaching for the United States to take military action.
