'U' group helps community

The calendar is always full for MSU Habitat for Humanity. Members of the community service organization travel across the Lansing area to read stories to children, nursing home residents and other individuals three times a week. Then there's the Book Buddies Valentine Party coming up this Friday. And members started building a house last fall that's almost done. MSU's chapter of Habitat for Humanity was established on campus in 1991.

Spartans focused on hard-nosed Badgers

If it doesn't concern tonight's game at Wisconsin, the MSU men's basketball team is lending only a deaf ear and a blind eye.The Spartans (13-8 overall, 5-4 Big Ten) have won three straight games, putting them two games out of the conference lead and in a fifth-place tie with Minnesota.But MSU head coach Tom Izzo said forecasting later games is useless in light of the Spartans' lackluster Big Ten start."If we get this one, I guess we'd be somewhat back in the race," Izzo said.

Lansing police responded to 911 calls Sunday morning and found a female at the intersection of Richmond Street and Mary Avenue dead after an apparent homicide. Calls came in during the morning from people who heard screaming and shots being fired.
