Students angered by sexually explicit shirt flyers

Student leaders are angered at a sexually explicit flyer distributed on campus Tuesday night.The flyer, which bore the phrase "Wolverines Pack Fudge" above an explicit drawing, is an advertisement for shirts being sold with the same drawing.

Smokers don't need health lecture

Craig Gunn's column condemning smoking is one of his most short-sighted articles I have read in a while ("Smoking: a basic human right or just another annoyance?"). We all know smoking is unhealthy; however, it is our right as citizens of this country to be allowed to have a cigarette.

After being ranked No. 4 nationally this week, the MSU women's cross country team will travel to the Michigan Intercollegiate in Hudsonville on Friday with the men's team. The women's team is ranked 13 places ahead of Wisconsin to be the highest-ranked Big Ten team. The Intercollegiate will begin at 4 p.m.

Buckeyes, Krenzel back in action at Wisconsin

No. 3 Ohio State at No. 23 Wisconsin Ohio State (5-0 overall, 1-0 Big Ten) comes off a bye week that allowed them to recover from numerous injuries. The most important player returning for the Buckeyes this week will be senior quarterback Craig Krenzel, who has been out the past two games with an elbow injury.

Volunteers to go 'into the streets' Saturday

Students looking for something to do on Saturday can interact and lend a helping hand with East Lansing citizens during the kickoff events of "Into the Streets." "Into the Streets" is intended to emphasize the importance of community service. The event is open to all MSU students and registration begins from 9 to 9:45 a.m.

Diversity sought in science

Lloyd Douglas said he thinks a band with only trombones would be dull.Similarly, the program director for the National Science Foundation said diversity is key to making scientific advances."Have you ever looked at the sheet music for West Side Story?" the former trombone player asked a group of MSU students and faculty Thursday night.

No justification for Alabama statue

This letter is in response to Eva Bohler's comments on John Bice's column regarding the Ten Commandments ("Columnist wrong in religious debate"). I can't help noticing that many Christians keep citing their own "persecution" (the inability to have school prayer) as a reason for keeping elements of Christianity such as the Ten Commandments public.

Grant brings 'U' to Nepal

When Patrick Livingston conceived of an international program to exchange ideas about water quality, he had no idea the thought would lead him to Nepal. The recently retired MSU Extension agent said he first had the idea while developing a water-quality testing program for middle school children in Macomb County.
