Make room

A new Multicultural Center would be a welcome addition to MSU - everybody agrees. Students could use the space for conferences and events, while the university as a whole could continue to market MSU as an accepting, multicultural environment. While the idea is great in theory, the MSU Board of Trustees needs a cohesive and, most importantly, feasible plan from the students to get the building construction under way. The struggle for a new center has been going on for years with no results, and right now is a bleak time for students to try and propose a new building on campus.

DCL dean: Name change positive

As the proposal to further mesh MSU with the Detroit College of Law heads to both schools' boards, many law school community members say the shift would upgrade the college's presence in university decisions as well as its prestige nationwide. New whiskey targets college crowd with local promotions

A new 100-proof liquor is making its way to local shot glasses this week as the product is unveiled in various Midwestern college towns. The Cutty Black whiskey, distributed by Skyy Spirits LLC, is being geared toward a college-age demographic with a "dedication to American male culture and the timeless feeling of American rock n' roll." Promotional parties at East Lansing and Lansing bars and restaurants include Michigan's "100 Proof Girls," nine scantily clad women tying into the liquor's advertisements that feature medieval, fantasy-themed women. "Cutty Black is an edgy, irreverent brand targeting consumers in these high-energy markets who are on the cutting edge of music and trends and enjoy a pleasure-seeking lifestyle," said Marc Bromfeld, a brand manager at Skyy Spirits LLC., in an e-mail to The State News.

Officials say riot behavior not expected
