Kerry endorsement aside, Bush will win

On Wednesday, The State News endorsed John Kerry for president ("Kerry in 2004" SN 10/27). Kudos for drafting an endorsement more vigorous than the tired, hesitating and reluctant endorsements nearly every other Kerry-supporting paper in the country has written.

Report details new residential college

By fall 2006, students could be enrolled in the new liberal arts residential college. Tentatively named after former South African leader Nelson Mandela, the college would grant degrees and have a base in international issues and would reside in Snyder and Phillips halls. The executive summary draft of the New Residential College Program Planning Committee details the new college.

Celebrities to stump for Kerry while VP visits

The stepson of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry will arrive on MSU's campus Friday morning with movie stars on each arm for a get-out-the vote rally. Chris Heinz, 30, is appearing at MSU with actresses Kirsten Dunst and Allison Munn.

There was an unparalleled energy in Jenison Field House during the MSU volleyball match versus Michigan as the Spartans beat U-M, 3-2, Wednesday night. "I felt like I could kiss everyone in Jenison," senior outside hitter Michelle Kopka said following the win. The noise from the spirit bands and student sections during the annual Jam Jenison was deafening of more than 3,000 people crowded into the bleachers in the largest turnout this season. The match was close throughout the evening as each team traded victories.

Ann Arbor - Even with the threat of rain last Saturday afternoon, downtown Ann Arbor was hopping with people. People carried umbrellas and were wrapped in ponchos, while keeping warm in their University of Michigan sweatshirts.

The Victoria's Secret Team Pink and the University Activities Board hosted an advanced screening for the show's new season in Wells Hall on Wednesday. MIDDAY UPDATE: Sparty's Night Club attempts to go topless

Sparty's Night Club is suing Lansing Township for a permit to allow topless entertainment in their club, township officials said. The permit would be an amendment to the club's current liquor license, Lansing Township Clerk Susan Aten said. The township is denying the permit, arguing it is not allowed in their ordinances, Aten said, adding that the area where Sparty's is located, at 410 S.

Bush lacks common management skills

I am responding to Bryan Dahl's so-called editorial "Kerry too wealthy to champion America's middle, lower classes" (SN 10/26). Dahl spent so long trying to tear down John Kerry, he forgot to defend the "champion of the little guy," President Bush. The fact is, Bush has never seen a hard day's work in his life.
