They’re not much to look at now — maybe just a few clusters of daffodils, nondescript greenery and an unassuming pavilion. But give the MSU Horticulture Gardens a couple months. That’s when they’ll come alive and that’s when they’ll be full of the perennial plants and the estimated 40,000 flowers and plants that are planted each year.

More Common Ground acts announced

Stone Temple Pilots are among the three new acts added to the lineup for the 10th Annual Common Ground Music Festival, slated to be held July 6-12. Los Lonely Boys and Billy Squier also were announced as performers at the festival, which will be held at Adado Riverfront Park in downtown Lansing.

Students must see book lists early, federal law mandates

Lengthy lines and scrambling students could potentially disappear from bookstores at the beginning of a new semester as a result of federal legislation. The legislation requires universities to make lists of course materials available to students by the opening of the enrollment process.

They varied in size, color and style, but the 300 shirts that hung from clotheslines Tuesday in the Union were all interwoven with a common theme: empowerment for the women who decorated them, survivors of sexual violence.

Famed zookeeper draws attention to local project

To help boost their Rhino Expansion Project, the Potter Park Zoo, 1301 S. Pennsylvania Ave., in Lansing, invited a special friend for support. America’s best-known zookeeper, Jack Hanna, and some of his animal friends visited the zoo Tuesday evening to chat, bark and growl about animal education and black rhinoceros conservation.

Spartans stomp Falcons 8-0

After waiting 15 minutes for her at bat, freshman infielder Ali Grant only needed a few seconds to end the game for her team. Playing through rain and wind the entire game, the MSU softball team was forced to take a break from its game against Bowling Green to wait for nearby lightning to pass.

MSU ready for league meet

The No. 20 MSU women’s golf team practiced through gusty winds, occasional rain spurts and hailstorms Tuesday afternoon, but they didn’t let the bad weather get in the way of preparing for its biggest tournament of the season — the Big Ten Championships hosted by Purdue at Kampen Course.

Spring game draft to be held today

With the NFL Draft looming, members of the MSU football team will have a chance to enter their names in a draft before ever considering going pro. Designated captains will embark on the first step of the annual spring Green and White Game today when they select players for each team by draft process.

Starting career tough for '09 MSU graduates

I don’t really have a question. I just need to vent. I am about to graduate in three weeks, and I have no idea what I am going to do with my life. I have spent four years here studying (a subject) and now I am not sure if there are even any jobs out there in (this) field. Michigan is my home and I am not sure I want to leave. Just not sure it was all worth it.
