As the streets of East Lansing darkened Saturday night, the buzz of the 2009 East Lansing Art Festival began to die down. But as fairgoers and art aficionados left, a new group arose to walk the streets of East Lansing: a macabre crowd of stumbling zombies.

Gay rights caused harm by protesters' actions

Controversy has surrounded a gay rights protest that occurred last year at Mount Hope Church in Lansing, and now it appears the issue is headed to federal court. A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of the church against the gay rights group Bash Back!, which has a chapter in Lansing, after the group disrupted a Sunday morning service this past November.

MSU baseball defeats Penn State 9-1

Sophomore right-handed pitcher A.J. Achter is getting the run support he had been looking for all season — and he didn’t even need it Saturday. Fresh off a win against Iowa in which he received 10 runs of support, Achter worked eight innings and allowed one unearned run while striking out five to help MSU (20-24 overall, 10-7 Big Ten) beat Penn State (22-21, 5-12) 9-1.

8 things to look back on from ’08-’09

It’s been a rough year for the nation and some of its effects have trickled through to campus. The economy has tanked, jobs are scarce, education funding continues to be threatened and mourning the deceased was all too common across campus this school year. But Spartans have shown their prowess on the athletic fields and courts and learned FRIB is coming to our crib, among other positive events.

The only thing that would have made sophomore guard Durrell Summers’ dunk over Connecticut forward Stanley Robinson better is if Summers had been wearing a “Welcome to Detroit” T-shirt instead of a green MSU jersey.

US-127, I-496 will see lane closures

Several road closures will begin within the next week, as summer construction projects commence in the Lansing area. Single lane closures on I-496 and US-127 will begin on Saturday for maintenance of freeway lights. One lane will be closed between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. in the area.
