'Taking Woodstock' slow, uninspiring

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock music festival. It’s odd that a film celebrating the monumental event neglects the most important feature of the festival: music. You’ll see weed, sex and plenty of long hair, but no more than a hint of music here.

MSU gathers volunteers from E.L. to help freshmen move in

As new freshmen unload their belongings into their new homes for the next nine months, faces familiar to East Lansing will be welcoming them. MSU has teamed with the city of East Lansing to round up volunteers for the freshman move-in Aug. 30. In past years, city officials and members of City Council have participated in the move-in, and now the university is extending the invitation to all East Lansing residents.

World’s largest particle accelerator undergoes repair

The end of the world might be on hold. At least until November. Almost a year after the world’s biggest high energy particle accelerator broke 10 days after being switched on, a plan was created to resume operations, scientists and MSU professors associated with the project said Wednesday.

When Scott Foreman mentioned biking across the country to his wife about a year ago, the MSU information technologist’s spouse rolled her eyes in disbelief. The then-overweight and out of shape Foreman didn’t know if he had what it took to reclaim his body. “Three years ago, I would have thought there was no way would I have done this,” he said.

Old town café offers healthier, fresh alternatives

When Mama Bear’s Café opened two years ago, its owners wanted to offer a new and healthy food market. “(Co-owner of Mama Bear’s) Eugene Hall felt like when he went out to eat in town, he wasn’t really finding anything healthy or fresh to eat. He just wasn’t impressed with the quality of food as far as small, quick service restaurants,” said Cecilia Garcia, co-owner of Mama Bear’s Café, 1224 Turner St., in Lansing.
