The spring break forecast for the No. 24 MSU gymnastics team looks similar to that of many students: sun, breeze and maybe some beach. But unlike regular MSU students, the team has serious business to attend to.

Two MSU freshman were sentenced Wednesday on charges stemming from a Nov. 1, 2009 prank where they allegedly threw a firework into the yard of an East Lansing home. Both were sentenced to 18 months of probation, 40 hours of community service and fined $613, according to a court clerk.
Under a plan facilitated by two MSU professors, the islands of Micronesia could become the first “world park” — a new concept for a promise to conserve the land and protect its culture. About 7,200 miles away from East Lansing, the park would become a sustainable tourism destination.

Proposed changes to the pay schedule for academic year faculty were discussed Tuesday at an Executive Committee of Academic Council meeting. Proposals for a different pay schedule would be implemented by August, if the proposal is enacted. Under the new proposal, faculty would be paid money usually withheld under the current system during the academic year and no longer would receive a paycheck during the summer months.
Amendments to the 2009-10 fiscal year budget imposing more than $1.9 million in reductions were approved by the East Lansing City Council Tuesday at its meeting. City officials predicted layoffs for the 2010-11 fiscal year, in which the city will face a $2.5 million shortfall.
A 21-year-old male MSU student reported his bike stolen Feb. 23, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. The bike was locked with a cable lock near Mason Hall. The bike is a red Schwinn bike valued at $200, McGlothian-Taylor said.
