There are two open seats on MSU’s Board of Trustees, with two Democratic and two Republican candidates running for election. No matter who wins, the majority of board members will be Democrats. Even if that is the case, MSU needs to be made priority.

Nine college students in the state of Washington ended up in the hospital earlier this month. Allegedly, they were so sick hospital employees believed they had been drugged. But as it turns out, they had not been drugged at all but had been drinking Four Loko — and evidently way too much of it.

The auto industry is back. That’s the message Gov. Jennifer Granholm and other Michigan politicians echoed as General Motors Corp. CEO Dan Akerson announced an about $190 million investment in the Lansing Grand River assembly plant to build a new, small luxury Cadillac car.

Bill proposed for abortion reform

A state representative is calling for abortion reform in Michigan following the alleged discovery of 17 aborted fetuses in a Lansing abortion clinic’s dumpster. A spokesman from the local police department, however, said investigators discovered biomedical waste and patient medical records in the dumpster, but no fetuses were found.

New penalties for higher BACs to take effect

Starting Sunday, the difference between a .08 and .17 will be more than a few decimal spaces. A new law, which passed in 2008 and goes into effect on Halloween, will provide stiffer penalties for those who drive with a blood alcohol content, or BAC, of .17 or above.
