Increased fee necessary for tattoo parlors
The same week Michigan legislators passed laws related to HIV testing, they also attempted to address the regulation of an industry that can put patrons at increased risk of contracting blood-borne pathogens. The bill, which passed in both houses, would require tattoo parlors to pay an annual fee of $500. For tattoo parlors, it means an annual increase of about $333 from the previous licensing fee — $500 every three years.

Hundreds of vendors showcase holiday gifts for UAB crafts show
The 47th annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Show transformed the Union into a haven for holiday knickknacks. The show was organized by the University Activities Board, or UAB, and showcased about 200 exhibitors selling an array of Christmas and winter-themed items, including personalized holiday ornaments, home-decorating merchandise and jewelry.

Icers fall to Ferris State in overtime
For more than 60 minutes, the MSU hockey team answered everything a fast No. 20 Ferris State team threw at it. But with 1:06 remaining in overtime, Ferris State defenseman Chad Billins’ deflected goal lifted the Bulldogs to a 1-0 overtime victory.

Spartans blow by Bowling Green, 74-39
The No. 6 MSU men’s basketball team defeated Bowling Green, 74-39, on Saturday at Breslin Center. Junior guard Kalin Lucas sat himself out for most of the second half to due tiredness and soreness.

Marijuana found in system of driver in fatal accident
A driver in the car accident on Oct. 10 that involved an MSU student and took the lives of five people had traces or marijuana in his system at the time of the crash, according to press release from the Green Oak Charter Police Department.
