Thankful traditions

Tantalizing aromas, coma-inducing eating, passionate football watching and family chaos are what most students are looking forward to enjoying tomorrow. But for many, being a student has caused Thanksgiving to take on a slightly different meaning, with new traditions and multiple celebrations while still at school.

Baker's pregame 'zone' leading to success

MSU football head coach Mark Dantonio spends a little bit of time before each game checking in on his players as they prepare for the upcoming game. And each time he approaches Edwin Baker, Dantonio said there is no doubt the sophomore running back is ready to play — no matter the opponent.

MSU sees rise of Libyan international students

Although virtually no Libyan students were enrolled at MSU three years ago, almost 60 Libyan international students are enrolled this fall, said Anne Schneller, coordinator of sponsored student recruitment for the Office of International Students and Scholars, or OISS.

City Hall to close for Thanksgiving

East Lansing City Hall, 410 Abbot Road, and all local post offices will be closed Thursday for Thanksgiving. East Lansing’s 54-B District Court, located in City Hall and Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road, will be closed for the holiday Thursday and Friday.

I’m confident I’m not the only student on campus who has not been home yet this semester. For a variety of reasons — work, school, social — it simply has been too difficult to go home even for a weekend. And I only live an hour west on I-96.

TIme for anti-bullying laws to take precedent

Anti-harassment and cyberbullying policies could be a national standard in universities if a recently proposed bill passes. The bill was drafted, in part, as a response to the events surrounding Rutgers University freshman Tyler Clementi’s suicide. Clementi committed suicide by jumping off a bridge after his roommate broadcast his sexual encounters with over the Internet.
