The MSU softball team kicked off its season in winning fashion, going 3-2 in its first five games this weekend at the Lead-off Classic in Deland, Fla.

At about 11:15 p.m. Saturday a fire was reported at Capitol Villa Apartments, East Lansing Fire Department deputy chief Steve Alvarado said. The fire started in apartment 48 on the second floor of building 1708, and four residents were rescued from the third floor, Alvarado said.
