What would cause 7,000–10,000 people to head to the state Capitol in protest over the last few days? Didn’t Gov. Rick Snyder promise to do big things if he were elected? Presumably, there are a large number of Michiganders asking themselves these very questions, but only the previously mentioned protestors were riled enough to show up.

The balance of power is tipping even more into Republican Gov. Rick Snyder’s hands. With the recent signing of a bill giving him executive power over municipalities deemed to be in dire financial straits, it seems the power of the governor’s office is expanding.

Website brings voice to Facebook

MSU social media users now have the chance to make their statuses sound even more personal. On a newly developed website called ShoutOmatic, people now will be able to record 30-second “shouts” and post them to their Facebook or Twitter accounts rather than using just text.

Students volunteer to inspire teenagers interested in art careers

Hailey Chenevert started working with a local art center as a class assignment. But what began as a requirement turned into a chance for her to form meaningful relationships by mentoring teenagers. More than a year later, the senior in the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities said she still is committed to the REACH Studio Art Center, 1804 S. Washington Ave., in Lansing.
