Of Two Minds

I swear, this column wasn’t even going to be about race. Not because I dislike being black or anything like that; let’s be honest, being black is pretty awesome. It’s more because I don’t want to be become the guy who points out every single example of social and racial inequality until he’s homeless, jobless and gibbering on about how the system kept him down.

Field hockey looking for offensive production this weekend

Helen Knull’s squad is coming off a tough 2-0 loss to then-No. 7 Michigan, in which the Spartans (7-10 overall, 1-4 Big Ten) were unable to get off a single shot in 70 minutes of play. Knull said the team’s performance showed some weaknesses on the offensive side of the ball, which the team has been working to improve this past week.

Volleyball beats Indiana in 4 sets

For the ninth straight meeting between the MSU volleyball team and the Indiana Hoosiers, the match went beyond three sets. And for the second time this season, the Spartans (17-6 overall, 7-6 Big Ten) toppled the Hoosiers, 3-1.

An 18-year-old female student reported her ID pouch stolen between 6-7 p.m. Oct. 19, from a CATA bus outside Bessey Hall, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.

Senate bill would allow on-campus alcohol sales

Students enrolled in certain programs might be able to engage in the sale of alcohol on campus if enough state legislators show support. New legislation would allow culinary and hospitality schools at public universities — including the School of Hospitality Business at MSU — to acquire a liquor license and sell alcoholic drinks as a part of instructor-approved activities.
