I am honored to be the new opinion writer for The State News this summer. As an employee of The State News and a freshman double majoring in journalism and international relations through James Madison College, it feels as though I’m almost starting to write as many words as I speak on a daily basis. MSU partners with Iraq to improve curricula

MSU faculty are working on a collaborative project with an Iraqi university funded through a $1 million grant that would allow Iraqi professors to update their course curricula to make it more modern. Professors from the University of Duhok ended a two-week visit to MSU on Tuesday after spending time collaborating with MSU professors in Lyman Briggs College, shadowing faculty and interacting with students to learn more about MSU’s curriculum and objectives.

The Residence Halls Association, or RHA, approved its summer 2012 budget at its Wednesday night meeting, allocating about $213,000 for expenses during the summer, including travel and fees for a national conference and promotional items.

Students get chance to experience disabilities

When hospitality business senior Sally Charness stopped at the rock on Farm Lane on Wednesday afternoon, she didn’t know she was about to be blinded. Students from the Council of Students with Disabilities, or CSD, asked her to wear a blindfold while reading braille printed on pop cans to simulate blindness. She soon could decipher an “S” on a can of Sprite, but she said it was hard to tell for sure what she was reading.
