Alumna struggles with life-threatening staph infection

Doctors repeatedly pointing out that MSU graduate Stacy Blakeslee might not pull through her life-threatening condition haven’t deterred her family from hoping for more of her smiles and future family dinners. Stacy was diagnosed with a severe staph infection that has spread throughout her body — including her brain.

Piano professor to put on 80-minute nonstop recital

Minsoo Sohn will put his endurance to the test during an 80-minute long performance at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night in the MSU Auditorium. Sohn, an assistant professor of piano in the College of Music, will be performing Goldberg Variations by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Juicy J makes late entrance to concert at auditorium

When rapper Juicy J took center stage Saturday night at the MSU Auditorium, the eager crowd — who waited more than two hours for him to grace the stage — was more than ready. Opening rappers Fowl, Ahmad & Warhead, Bootz Bub and Sincere led the concert off with original pieces, and the MSU chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity also performed a step show. But by 8:30 p.m., the impatient audience heckled the rappers and yelled for Juicy J to come on stage. After the opening acts finished, it was quite evident the rapper still was not ready to perform.

MSU Ballroom Dance Team teaches beginners basic steps

The Union Ballroom was transformed into a dance floor for both the graceful and the clumsy on Friday night. “So You Want to Learn to Dance” gave students of any dancing background a chance to learn the basic steps of three types of dance: cha-cha, swing dancing and waltz. The event, put together by University Activities Board and hosted by members of the MSU Ballroom Dance Team, was free for students with ID.

MSU College of Music performances to take place tonight

The stages are set for an evening of beautiful melodies provided by two of MSU’s faculty members and a guest performer on Wednesday. Philip Sinder, a tuba and euphonium professorch, will ?be performing alongside ?piano professor Deborah Moriartych. The two will be playing three classical pieces from composers Bach, Broughton and Prokofiev.

Comedians, spotlights and hundreds of laughs filled a Lansing comedy club Saturday night to raise money to help dogs find homes. New Hope Pet Rescue, a Laingsburg, Mich.-based K-9 rescue organization, held a fundraiser at Connxtions Comedy Club as a fun way to raise money for a cause.

Students placed under hypnotist's trance Friday

As Incredible Boris slowly counted to 10, students gathered in the International Center Friday night began to feel their muscles slacken and their eyelids droop. Incredible Boris, or Boris Cherniak, randomly selected 11 volunteers. Those who fell under the power of the trance were told to imagine they were holding a balloon.

"12 Angry Men" comes to Riverwalk Theatre

After two months of practices, the gripping drama “12 Angry Men” debuted at Lansing’s Riverwalk Theatre yesterday night and will play through the end of the weekend. The play features 12 jurors who ultimately decide the fate of an 18-year-old underprivileged boy who is on trial for stabbing his father to death.
