Whitney Houston remembered fondly by students, professor

In November 2011, while on the set of Whitney Houston’s upcoming film “Sparkle,” Houston and several of her co-stars stood together, waiting for the next scene. Also on the set that day was Kelley Carter, an MSU and State News alumna and current entertainment reporter, who was interviewing Houston for Ebony Magazine. Carter said what she saw that day was one of the most telling aspects of Houston’s personality.

When Kelli Wall noticed in high school other sprinters who were smaller than her running faster than she was, she thought the only way to keep up was to slim down. “Their time would be less than mine, and I seriously felt that losing weight would affect my time, and my agility and my speed would get faster,” the dietetics sophomore said.

Tex-Mex chain set to arrive in E.L.

This spring, a new taste of Tex-Mex food is expected to make its way downtown. A new branch of Moe’s Southwest Grill, a national fast-casual southwestern restaurant, is expected to open later this spring inside the former site of OZ Gallery and Hand-Blown Glass, 551 E. Grand River Ave. The location is just down the street from Panchero’s, 125 E. Grand River Ave., and Chipotle, 539 E. Grand River Ave.

New version of GMAT requires increased student preparation

Time is running out for students interested in taking the current version of the Graduate Management Admission Test, or GMAT. Starting in June, the new version of the GMAT will include an integrated reasoning section that will replace one of the writing sections of the test, said Andrew Mitchell, Kaplan Test Prep’s director of pre-business programs.

Sweethearting is a term used to describe the act of a company employee giving food products, retail items or other services to friends and family at a reduced cost or at no charge.

RHA members attend statewide conference

With its spring election season just around the corner, starting with presidential elections next week, the Residence Halls Association, or RHA, are using suggestions from other Michigan universities to transition to new leadership. Delegates from MSU joined students from nine other Michigan universities last weekend for the annual Michigan Organization of Residence Hall Associations, or MORHA, conference at Grand Valley State University.

New museum exhibit focuses on Darwin’s study of geology

It didn’t take a plane ticket and a geological tool kit for students and community members to meet exotic animals and classify rocks Sunday during the MSU Museum’s annual Darwin Discovery Day. Different ancient rocks and exhibits were on display at the museum to honor acclaimed scientist Charles Darwin’s research in evolution and geology.
