The Michigan Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence, or MCPGV, is holding "The Gun Show," a non-partisan play about guns at 7 p.m. on Feb. 15 at the MSU Auditorium in collaboration with Michigan State University Department of Theatre’s Director Rob Roznowski.

The play, written by award-winning playwright E.M. Lewis, features only one-person in one-act starring senior theatre major Jala Jackson.

Linda Brundage, Executive Director of the MCPGV, described the purpose of putting on a production like this.

“We’re stuck in a place as a society where gun violence has become an everyday norm and the debate about what to do about it has come to a standstill. This play is a great way to spark civil discussion,” she said.

Brundage said the plot of the play highlights Lewis’ experience with guns in her life as she moved from rural Oregon to New York and Los Angeles. It doesn’t have a specific political stance, instead the play raises the question – can we talk about this?

The MCPGV is affiliated with States United to Prevent Gun Violence which is a national non-profit organization concentrating on aiding state-based gun violence prevention programs.

The play is touring across the state of Michigan with a total of 10 productions. Tickets are $5 at the door and donations are more than welcome.

Brundage said in order to get people talking after the play there will be a speaker to aid discussion.
