As she sat across from her friend Anthony Greenfield sipping smoothies, MSU alumna Jo Tic wasn’t surprised a bit when she heard the news.
Greenfield had been named Cosmopolitan magazine’s Michigan’s most eligible bachelor.
“He’s such a great candidate,” she said. “He’s that genre of guys that are kind of dying off — the gentleman type of guy.”
In May, after reviewing Facebook pictures of Greenfield sent to the magazine by his friend, Cosmopolitan chose MSU alumnus Greenfield as Michigan’s most eligible bachelor.
As a Cosmopolitan pick, Greenfield is competing against 50 other men — one from each state, as well as Washington, D.C. — for the title of Cosmopolitan’s Bachelor of the Year, along with a $10,000 grand prize.
Michigan’s most eligible bachelor of 2010 also was an MSU alumnus.
Readers can vote online at cosmopolitan.com for their favorite bachelor. The winner will be announced Oct. 18.
Greenfield said his parents back home are more than proud of his achievements.
“(My mom) got a subscription to Cosmo and bought dozens to pass out to people,” he said. “(My parents have) been really supportive. …They love spreading the word.”
His profile on the magazine’s website features a professional photograph, basic statistics on Greenfield and his answers to personal questions.
Tic said Greenfield’s answers displayed his genuine personality.
“When we used to go to the bar together, he wouldn’t point out the girl in the sexy little dress but the really unique girls that stood out in a different way than just sex appeal,” she said.
A special email address was created specifically for Greenfield so his admirers could contact him.
Although he receives many messages, Greenfield said he always makes sure to respond.
“I’m flattered that people take the time to write me,” he said. “I think it’s nice to show some appreciation back to my, if you will, fans.”
In July, Greenfield made the life-changing decision to move from East Lansing to New York City and pursue his dreams of modeling.
Since signing with an agency, he has been traveling throughout Europe on modeling jobs.
Hospitality business junior Bradley Peterson, one of Greenfield’s friends, said he wasn’t surprised the model won the state title but was impressed by the amount of recognition he is receiving from being in such a popular magazine.
“He always said he wanted to travel and make something of his life,” he said. “Now that he’s into this modeling career, he’s doing it.”
