Picture perfect football Saturday

What a beautiful Saturday to kick off the 2007 college football season. Not only was East Lansing alive with football fever once again, but the Spartans have clearly already bought into the new coaching scheme of first-year coach Mark Dantonio. Reference the MSU thumping over UAB for proof of that. Sure it’s just UAB, sure there will be much tougher tests yet to come, but that blowout win was something that Spartans fans needed to see.

So much for Michigan winning the national championship, eh? To the delight of Spartans fans, the Wolverines were beaten in one of the biggest upsets in NCAA football history today when Appalachian State blocked a U-M field goal opportunity with seconds left in the game to win, 34-32. It was a game for the ages, that was viewed (most likely) by few, thanks to the Big Ten Network’s inability to compromise with Comcast. I’m sure it will be on ESPN Classic in the near future, and for those of you that haven’t seen it, trust me, it’s worth a watch.

All in all, a great day to be a Spartan.
