Spartans end season with 3-2 tourney loss

Coming back from a 4-3 overtime loss against No. 3 UConn Sept. 14, the No. 6 Spartans (9-1 overall, 1-0 Big Ten) came back with a vengeance in Saturday’s Big Ten opener against Northwestern (3-5, 0-1) — shutting the Wildcats out 4-0.

    Freshman Jantine Steinmetz has been named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts in both weekend match-ups against Lindenwood and Saint Louis. This marks the second consecutive week that a member of the MSU field hockey team has earned this award.

    It was a good weekend for MSU field hockey — especially for sophomore back Jeamie Deacon.

    Starting off with a dominating 5-1 win over Miami (Ohio) last Friday and keeping the momentum going with a 3-0 victory over Boston University the following Sunday, the team upped their record to an unbeaten 4-0.
