Men's basketball head coach Tom Izzo didn't have much to say about former MSU acting president William "Bill" Beekman being named interim athletic director after the team's practice on Thursday.

Izzo, while familiar with Beekman, said he has had few past interactions with the new interim athletic director.

"I do know Bill Beekman, and I like Bill Beekman. I don't know him as an AD, I barely know him as a boss," Izzo said. "I really don't know him that well, but like everybody as new people come in, I'm going to get to know him. When I get to know him, I'll have a better comment."

Beekman, who continues to serve as the vice president and secretary of the Board of Trustees, was named interim athletic director by MSU interim president John Engler earlier this week following the retirement of former athletic director Mark Hollis on Jan. 26.

Engler said in a press release that a nationwide search for a permanent athletic director will begin shortly and no internal candidates will be considered in the search process.
