Game developers, professors present benefits of gaming for language learning
MSU Libraries partnered with various university departments to host Video Games for Learning Japanese (and Other Languages) on March 21. Gaming developers and teaching faculty presented and demonstrated elements of video and board games that help students learn primarily Japanese, but also other languages such as Swahili, French and Portuguese.
Students raise concern over MSU water quality, IPF claims to work on improvements
MSU's Infrastructure Planning and Facilities (IPF) released a public notice on Aug. 12, 2024 stating that they didn't take all of the required water samples in July 2023, and there was a delayed sample in March 2023. Samples for Water Quality Parameter (WQP1) tests were also not tested for all the required analytes from Feb. 14 to March 4, 2023. IPF claims they have been meeting proper regulations since the incidents in 2023, however, students continue to express concern over undesirable water quality.
JMC roundtable discussion highlights African American musical activism
James Madison roundtable discussion African American Art and Activism was held on Feb. 25. It was hosted by JMC professor Rashida Harrison and JMC academic and DEI specialist Jahshua Smith, with guests Jasmine Hamilton-Wray and Ozay Moore. They discussed the community, advocacy and legacy of hip hop, particularly in Black culture and activism.
MSU Shorter Shower Initiative works to reduce excessive use of heated water
The Shorter Shower Initiative is a research program by Michigan State University’s Social Science Scholars for water conservation in the university's dorms. Beginning in 2022, this research project has been working toward reducing the amount of heated water used on campus, as it directly contributes to carbon emissions.
MSU Citizens' Climate Lobby advocates for climate change awareness
MSU’s chapter of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) conducted a snowman protest in front of Wells Hall on Jan. 27. The protest had three snowmen holding up signs promoting climate change awareness. CCL is looking to promote more environmental awareness in the future.
