Ultimate Frisbee Whizzes through to regional tourney
Sunny weather and barbecues are what most people associate with Frisbees, but for some MSU students, the flying discs conjure up thoughts of cleats, goals and championships. The MSU Ultimate Frisbee team finished second in the Ultimate Players Association College Sectionals last weekend in Ann Arbor, losing 17-6 to the University of Michigan in the final game. The top two teams in the tournament move on to the regional tournament in Columbus.
Fraternity teaches job skills
At Phi Chi Theta, some students are helping each other get an edge in the business world. The co-educational professional business fraternity, tries to teach its members communication, leadership and professional skills. This September will mark the 10th year that the group, which consists of 45 members, has been at MSU.
Scuba Club gives no penalty for diving in underwater hockey
The MSU Scuba Club hosted its first underwater hockey tournament April 7 at Jenison Field House, where 45 players competed, with some traveling from across Michigan, Canada and Illinois. Underwater hockey takes place along a pool floor, where two teams of six players compete to get a 5-pound puck through sheet metal troughs that serve as goals.
MSU Rodeo Club steers itself toward education
In his 1991 song Rodeo, Garth Brooks sings, She knows his loves in Tulsa/And she knows hes gonna go/Well, it aint no woman, flesh and blood/Its that damned old rodeo. And since 1969 the MSU Rodeo Club has shared the country singers enthusiasm, while it has been promoting, educating about and competing in the sport. One of the clubs objectives is to educate people about rodeo competition events, such as bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, team roping and barrel racing.
