Former Temple Club shows find new venues
The Temple Club is no more, but two of the club's shows scheduled for this weekend have found new homes. Today's multiband "We Rock: You Decide" concert will begin at 6 p.m.
Local venue closes
The signs on the front doors of The Temple Club said it all Tuesday night: "With Apologies, Tonight's Show is cancelled." However, the sign indicated a larger issue: The Temple Club is closed for good. Now, local musicians are scrambling to fill the void left by the club, which was Lansing's largest venue for live music. Financial issues forced the shutdown of the club on Tuesday.
MIDDAY UPDATE: The Temple Club closed Tuesday because of financial reasons
For the last five years, The Temple Club, 500 E. Grand River Ave. in Lansing, has provided the capital city with a heaping helping of quality live music. On Tuesday night, however, general manager Jerome White announced in an e-mail that the club would be closing its doors, effective immediately, because of financial reasons. "To all of the patrons; we could not have lasted this long without you," he wrote.
MIDDAY UPDATE: BluesFest blends color, music in Old Town Lansing
On Friday and Saturday in the Old Town section of Lansing, color, light and music will come together as part of the 12th annual Old Town BluesFest, thanks to a lighting design that will highlight the area's historic architecture during the outdoor festival's nighttime hours. "Our attitude is we always want to do something new at Jazz and BluesFest; try to come up with some new and creative ideas," said Terry Terry, president of the Old Town Business & Art Development Association.
